Entertaiment is a wide range of experiences designed to amuse, excite, inspire or otherwise entertain an audience. It is often associated with fun and laughter, although many entertainments have a serious purpose – such as in the form of ceremony, celebration, religious festival or satire for example.
It is often the case that entertainment can be viewed as both subtle and direct commentaries on social, political and economic issues. From the famous story of Scheherazade (a central character in Persian professional storytelling tradition) being adapted to an orchestral work by composers like Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel, to more recent examples such as Childish Gambino’s hit song “This is America”, entertainment provides an ideal platform for presenting a narrative and hopefully sparking change.
To do well in the entertainment industry it is important to take inspiration from others – both performance styles and how other businesses are run – but also to stay true to yourself. A good way to do this is by finding mentors who can teach you the ropes and give you advice.
