Something affording pleasure, diversion, or amusement. For example, solving a crossword puzzle can be an enjoyable way to spend time. Often, entertainment serves as a distraction from other concerns, or it may be a vehicle for achieving insight or intellectual growth. What appears to be entertainment for one person or group of people, however, can be viewed as work or cruelty by others. Many familiar forms of entertainment are capable of crossing over different media, and this flexibility has given rise to a seemingly unlimited number of recurring themes and images.
