Henry Ford

If you’re wondering what the relationship between Henry Ford and automobiles is all about, read on. Ford, an engineer by profession, made a name for himself by revolutionizing factory production using assembly-line methods. As an engineer at the Edison Illuminating Company, Ford met Thomas Edison, a young inventor from Michigan. Edison encouraged Ford to pursue an engineering degree, and the two became good friends. In 1896, Ford was given a job in New Jersey, and together they developed a series of innovative automobiles.

Daimler-Maybach

Maybach and Daimler’s collaboration began with a small house they bought for 75,000 Gold marks in 1882 in Cannstatt, Germany. Soon after, they incorporated a brick extension onto the summerhouse, turning it into the first workshop for the Daimler-Maybach automobile company. However, their activities were frowned upon by neighbors. They were raided by police while the owners were away, and found engines and parts destined for production.

Ford’s Model T

It was expected that Ford would continue to build the Model T with incremental improvements for decades. Yet, as Chevrolet introduced more advanced cars at a lower price, the sales of Model Ts declined. So, the car’s creator decided to kill the Model T, and instead, introduced the all-new Model A. Here’s how it came to be. Despite its short life, the Model T has left its mark on automotive history.

Ford’s first assembly line

When Henry Ford started the Ford Motor Company in 1903, he used an assembly line to reduce the cost and production time of the Model T. Ford wanted to make the car affordable to the average person, and this assembly line would allow the company to do just that. The assembly line consists of a group of workers and machinery that perform specific tasks in an orderly fashion. Today, many factories utilize natural light, thereby saving on electricity.
